Jude's First Thanksgiving

It was a frigid first Thanksgiving for Jude at the Macy's Parade!

Jude took off his good-lookin' sweater during dinner to munch on his meal. Grandmother's homemade rolls and some sweet potatoes.

Okie Dokie

Jude and I left New York for 9 days of family time in Oklahoma!

Have I ever mentioned that little Cairo says Jude's name with a thick Arabic accent? Have I ever mentioned that little Caroline says Jude's name with a D? So it comes out Dude. Both pronunciations are the cutest thing ever.  We miss them already!

Long Walk

Jude and I enjoyed the warm sun today with some great views.

He's such a cutie pie.

I want to cement in my mind the visual of his little hand sticking out of the stroller forever. ...and his little high pitched squeals he's been doing non-stop the last few days. It's kind of crazy how much fun we have together.

We've had a crazy, crazy, week trying to get adjusted to our new lifestyle.

In Brett's own words in a recent email he sent out:

"Auburn and I are on "change" overload. I really think the brain and emotions are only meant to handle small quantities of changes at a time, but I think we are enduring every possible one of them. Things at our new home are slowly coming together. Our neighborhood is great, and we've managed to complete most of the usual errands, address changes, TV, internet, mail, and a hundred other things."

I've posted some pics of our exhausting-errand-running-day over the weekend.  Everything's a learning curve. At least that's what I've been telling myself. Despite our cramped quarters in the apartment, God is giving us small blessings each day... and granting us the grace to see how He provides abundant Joy.

At the Farmer's Market in Union Square. Jude smelling the gorgeous eucalyptus:

Brett purchasing a piping hot cup of cidar:

Union Square is about 15 minutes from our apartment. It's easy access for Jude and I to hop on the L and get a bunch of our shopping done while Brett is at work.

Proof that babies do indeed "adjust" and nap when needed:

While Jude was napping we took advantage and was able to enjoy one of New York's best delights. Chewy on the outside, warm and soft on the inside. Nobody does it better.

One Box at a Time

I'm posting a few pics of the house and all the progress we made while Grandma Suzanne was here. Grandma Suzanne left this morning, but she was non-stop help unpacking boxes and scrubbing this place clean.
We still have a pretty big pile of boxes to unpack and we're not sure exactly where any of it is going.

I avoided taking pics of the boxes yet to be unpacked.

Very soon I may avoid looking at the boxes yet to be unpacked. And then, maybe they'll unpack themselves.

Brett headed to his first day of work in the office:

Brett brought Jude back a souvenier from his orientation in Orlando:

Hugs, hugs, and more hugs from Grandma Suzanne:

Okay, now for my rinky dink apartment tour.  Don't tell Apartment Therapy.

The apartment is called a "Railroad" style layout. (A layout that's very common in Queens.)  All the rooms are in a row, much like a visual of a Railroad car. For instance, there's no hallway.  One room leads into another room. The rooms go in order from the front door:
kitchen, living area, Jude's room, master bedroom....with the bathroom being off the kitchen.
I hope that makes some sense. Below is the view of the kitchen, with my back to the living area door frame:

Below you can see the front door, next to the fridge.

Below is the living area, Jude, and his friend Sophie.

This is a view of the living area and a partial view of one of two tiny closets. In the left edge of the pic is Jude's doorway into his room.

This is a view of Jude's room from the living area's door frame:

Like I mentioned before, these are pics of our tiny apartment just 5 days after moving in. There's still a lot of work to be done and a lot of creativity to be dug up in order to find space for the rest of our belongings.
There's no pics of the master bedroom, because my cute curtains have not arrived, and the clothes are not out of suitcases yet. Pics to come.
Oh, and I spared you the dirty details of the bathroom. I may in fact do a before and after pic later on of the bathroom. I've spent part of the last 5 days deflecting my Southern charm and putting to good use some Massachusetts etiquette.  In other words, I've been demanding a bathroom makeover. I think Massachusetts prepared me well for my New York landlord. I shall have a new tile bathroom and sink by the end of next week.

Hello New York

After a very long day on Saturday, we got moved into our new apartment in New York. We had a tremendous amount of help in Massachusetts helping us load the Uhaul.  Then, two of Brett's friends rode in the Uhaul to NY and helped unload the big pieces of furniture before they turned right around and rode a Greyhound back to Boston. Then it was just Brett and I for a little over two hours unloading never ending boxes. Whoo!  Thank You Friends!

Jude's first JetBlue flight.
To our new home:

Sending Brett off to his first day of orientation at JetBlue:

To make everything even more fun, Grandma Suzanne literally showed up on our doorstep to surprise us. And boy did she surprise us!! She has unpacked too many boxes to count and we have loved every minute of her visit.
